Chapter 29- Betrayed

Wanderer is stupid so she shows herself to Pedobear. Ian is ready to protect her and Pedobear says he just wants to talk to Wanderer. Pedobear says he won't kill her because Jamie has just as much say in what happens to her and Jamie's been suckered. Ian says that no one's been suckered and he sounds really angry.

I took another short step. Jared turned his hand palm up and curled his fingers twice, encouraging me forward. That's creepy, and also kind of patronizing. Pedobear is so annoying. Ian is keeping close to Wanderer. Pedobear says he wants to talk alone but Ian's not leaving.

“Her name isWanda, not it. You will not touch her. Any mark you leave on her, I will double on
your worthless hide.” He's sounding hotter by the second, I have to admit.

Melanie didn't like this; she wanted to be near him, for me to
smell his scent and feel the warmth of his body beside me.
I did not want that–and it wasn't because I was afraid he would hurt me; he didn't look angry at the moment, only tired and wary. I just didn't want to be any closer to him. Something in my chest was hurting to have him so near–to have him hating me in such close proximity. Oh so, you don't sit by him because his hate hurts you, not because he wants to kill you. Makes sense.

Pedobear scoots closer and Melanie gets jealous because Wanderer loves him. Um, she's known this for who knows HOW long and it's just annoying her NOW?

Anyway, Pedobear asks if Melanie is still alive but it doesn't matter because he won't believe her anyway. He's an ass. He's just looking for an excuse to prove her as a liar so he can get permission to kill her. Nice, Pedobear. Nice. Melanie's freaking out and trying to escape so Wanderer is physically hurting from Melanie and mentally hurting from Pedobear and SERIOUSLY I hate her but can't she just get a break? For some reason she's not saying anything and they're just looking at each other and then we have a Pedobear memory YAY.

Jamie and Pedobear are watching a basketball game, and there's a part that's surprisingly hilarious. Remember how Yeerks are supposed to be nice, fair, honest, and they never fight? This is from the basketball game they were watching:

On the TV, two players are disagreeing politely on the sideline. The cameraman is close; we
can hear what they're saying.
“I believe I was the last one to touch it–it's your ball.”
“I'm not sure about that. I wouldn't want to take any unfair advantage. We'd better have the
refs review the tape.”
The players shake hands, pat each other's shoulders.

That's so funny! Why can't Smeyer do that more often? But again, I have to bring up the point: Why would you travel light years to do mundane things that humans do when you can just do that on your own planet?

The Yeerks are holding Olympics in Haiti for some reason, and everyone who participates gets a medal. It's like competing at elementary school level. Then Pedobear and Melanie cuddle and she randomly starts talking about her dad. Pedobear makes everything safe and happy blah blah unicorns and puppies blah blah kittens blah.

Wanderer wonders if Melanie would have loved Pedobear he was always the huge douchebag he is now and she says yes and Wanderer wonders if she would love him if he were like that in her memory.

Pedobear has been talking but Wanderer hasn't been listening.

Holy shit: He rapped his fist lightly against my head. I flinched away from him, and he folded his arms. "Mcfly! Mcfly! Anybody home, Mcfly?"

Pedobear is just speculating on shit that's boring and I don't want to write it down here. It's unimportant. Melanie's getting all jealous again because Wanderer wants to caress Pedobear's face. Oooh CATFIGHT. Pedobear says that Jeb says Wanderer is here for Jamie and Pedobear and Wanderer is surprised that he realized this.

NO WAY. He's kissing her now. That's random. Tell me, does this fit in with Pedobear's personality thus far? NO. STOP CHANGING PERSONALITIES!

It was not Melanie–the body was stronger than either of us now. Our breathing echoed loudly: mine wild and gasping, his fierce, almost a snarl. Will they have hot hate sex? If they do it will abruptly fade to black. Oh wait, I skimmed and missed this part: Melanie punches Pedobear. Why? I don't know. Perhaps to stop Wanderer from kissing him, or...I don't really know. Anyway, they break apart and Wanderer is all repulsed that she used violence. Like, she's almost puking with it. Grow up. Pedobear is surprised she punched him.

The pain in my chest was not a surprise. I already knew that a breaking heart was more than an exaggeration. Ahh, SO CHEESY.

So anyway, she ran back through the cardboard filled tunnels and she starts crying like a little baby. WAHHH. WAHHH. I'M A BABY, SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAAAAMBULANCE! Anyhoo, he tries to grab her leg, which is creepy, and they're (Melanie/Wanderer) both all agonized because they hit him. I don't know why Melanie is, because she's the one who hit him. Wanderer is still freaked out because she used violence and the kiss was some kind of test and she failed, or some such. I don't understand the psychological motivations these people have.

So anyway, somehow Pedobear now knows that Melanie is alive.
