Oscar Noms and Other Things

So, the Oscar noms are out. Based on logical guesswork, critical acclaim, and Oscar buzz, here are my Oscar predictions:

Best Picture- No Country For Old Men

Best Actor- George Clooney in Michael Clayton

Best Actress- Julie Christie in Away From Her

Best Supporting Actor- Casey Affleck in The Assassination etc. However, now I'm kind of leaning towards Philip Seymour Hoffman in Charlie Wilson's War. We shall see.

Best Supporting Actress- Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There

Best Director- No Country For Old Men- Joel and Ethan Coen

Best Animated Film- Ratatouille

Best Foreign Language Film- 12

Adapted Screenplay- Atonement

Original Screenplay- Juno

Original Score- Ratatouille

Original Song- That's How You Know from Enchanted

I can't wait to see if I'm psychic.

Anyhoo, something baffling happened to me today. Spoiler warning. I was reading I Am Legend, and I was halfway through the book and he dies. I was wondering what the rest of the book could possibly be about if the main character died. I theorized that maybe it was about the new society of vampires, and I thought that would be kind of anti-climactic and rather superfluous. So I kept reading, and all of a sudden its a fair and people are playing rigged games on the midway and I'm like, "what just happened?" And I flipped through to see if I could see Robert Neville's name, like maybe he didn't actually die. And I saw people with weird names, like Morton and Delphinium, and I was so confused. Then I realized that apparently, I Am Legend is a book of short stories or novellas or something. But the weird part is that it doesn't say that ANYWHERE on the cover. It says "I Am Legend by Richard Matheson" not like, "I Am Legend" and other stories. And on the back it has a synopsis of I Am Legend, but none of the other stories. On the inside it says "I Am Legend, copyright 1954" but none of the other stories! It was a very badly put together book. I think they put the new edition out in a hurry after the movie was released and didn't bother to capitalize on the other stories or anything.

Finals are finally done. English was easy, Psych was easier, and History was the hardest, surprisingly. I'm sure it didn't help that I had to pee really bad while writing my essay question, so I wrote as fast as I could and didn't check my test over. Whatever. I've never had to study for three tests before. I've always just had one until grade 10, when I had to write two, and last year I had to write...one? Yeah, pretty sure it was one.

I was watching Smallville and I had this crazy and mind blowing thought. The world of Smallville is one in which the legend of Superman DOES NOT EXIST. No one there knows the lore of Superman. To us, he's the quintessential superhero and we all know the catchphrases "it's a bird, it's a plane, it's Superman!" "Faster than a speeding bullet!" "Truth, justice, and the American Way!" They have never heard of that. It's really weird to think about.

Anyway, I'm going to bounce. Ciao!
