Chapter 19- Abandoned

I really really really HATE how submissive Wanderer is. I mean, oh she has love feelings that aren't hers, OH I better not fight them! I have this person trying to take a body that I believe is mine, OH I'll just let her take over. This invader is making me go traipsing across the desert looking for people who will probably kill me OH it sounds like a good idea to just follow her! I have this Seeker following me, oh better not do anything to piss her off! GAH GROW A PAIR.

So Ian has blocked punches TWICE for Wanderer. ...why? I mean, he hates the Yeerks as much as anyone. Oh, I SEE WHERE THIS IS GOING. Obviously, both Melanie AND Wanderer can't end up with Pedobear, so let's create a convenient ALTERNATE love interest because no one can end up unpaired! Also...how is that going to work out? Wanderer obviously has to possess someone to tap that, and Ian hates the idea of Wanderer taking over someone's body so...

Oh for fuck's sake.

Was I truly a coward? I would rather have believed that I was–that my fear of pain was stronger than anything else. The real reason I opened my mouth and spoke was so much more pathetic.
I wanted toplease him, this human who hated me so fiercely. For FUCK'S SAKE. AHHHH. I just...I have no words. I am honestly speechless. She just SCREAMS submissive and meek bitch who would totally get off on being dominated.

Anyway, now Pedobear and Ian are questioning Wanderer about the Seeker. Seriously though, WTF is Ian doing there? He's like a random tertiary character that shows up EVERYWHERE. He's like Skinner in the early seasons when he would randomly help out Mulder and Scully.

My jaw locked hard. It was notthe secret, but still, it was a secret he would have to beat out of
me. In this moment, my determination to hold my tongue had less to do with self-preservation
than it did with a stupid, grudging kind of pride. I wouldnot tell this man who despised me that Iloved him.

This is such an abusive relationship. I shudder to think of what Smeyer's relationship is like, because she totally fails at portraying realistic and healthy relationships.

Another genuinely funny part:
“Do you remember that first night? When it jumped between you and Kyle? That was bizarre.”
“It was just trying to find a way to stay alive, to escape.…”
“By giving Kyle the go-ahead to kill her–it? Good plan.” It is EXACTLY like dialogue between Mulder and a skeptical Scully.

Ian mentions that he feels guilty for beating Wanderer. SO a love interest. Because everyone has to end up happily paired up in the end!

How creepy and Stockholm-y is it to be in love with a man who is holding you prisoner and wants to kill you? It's like Twilight ALL OVER AGAIN.

Pedobear is such a whiny bitch. At the beginning when he was all randomly making out with Melanie and super excited that there was another human, I kind of imagined him as a huge burly guy with facial hair. Now that he's a little bitch I imagine him as kind of like Aaron Carter, in that he thinks that he's tougher than he actually is.

Jeb mentioned Brandt again. Who the hell is Brandt? He mentioned him before, WHEN ONLY KYLE, IAN, AND PEDOBEAR WERE IN THE ROOM. Maybe he's a ghost.

Okay, beating this point to death, but seriously, WOULD ANY NORMAL PERSON BE IN LOVE WITH SOMEONE WHO WANTED TO KILL THEM?

And seriously, Melanie has only spoken like twice this chapter. There was so much potential with Wanderer and Melanie discussing the morals of eradicating a species to make their world a better place and Melanie's struggles to take back her body and trying to convince Wanderer that what she was doing was wrong and ARGH I GUESS THAT WAS TOO ADVANCED FOR SMEYER.

So now Wanderer thinks Pedobear is going to kill her. End of the chapter, yay.
