I watched Blood Ties today, and WOW do Vicki and Henry have some sexual tension going on! It's almost like Bones, where you know they want each other but THEY JUST CAN'T FACE THE TRUTH except this is WAY more volatile. It actually makes my internal temperature go up. Henry is SO hot. Mmm.
Speaking of sexual tension and Bones, Brennan and Booth's relationship has been taken a step further. SHE COOKED HIM DINNER. And yet, sadly, a gulf the size of the Grand Canyon separated them. They have such good chemistry but they can't see that THEY LOVE EACH OTHER. Although, if their tension was ever resolved, the show would go downhill. It's a slippery slope with the concept of sexual tension. On the one hand, you have them loving each other but nothing comes of it, and the viewers (read: me) are all frustrated and angry, or you can resolve it, and run the risk of jumping the shark. This has happened on countless TV shows.
X-Files handled it well. You KNEW Mulder and Scully were sleeping with each other, you saw them kiss, and yet they ignored each other completely the rest of the time, so it was a win-win, kind of. You weren't frustrated that they didn't fall in love, but you didn't feel that they were actually together, so that tension could continue. But then, even though they ended up having an epic love story, Mulder and Scully didn't appear to have any sexual tension, except for select moments (example: the time they almost kissed in the movie, any time they touch foreheads, which seems to be a lot) And their first kiss in Millennium in season 7? EXTREMELY lukewarm. I was SO angry at that. Six years worth of bottled up feelings, and THAT was all they could muster? The kiss in triangle was pretty awesome though. Although that was an alternate reality Scully and there was the possibility Mulder hallucinated the whole thing. And then when he confessed his love for Scully and she thought it was just a result of his head trauma, Mulder gave a sad little smile and it almost broke my heart. Anyway, the kiss in Triangle was pretty epic, but I still maintain the best kiss on the X-Files EVER was between Marita and Krycek in the season 2 episode End Game. By the way, I miss Krycek. He left sometime in season four and only showed up twice in season 7. Just long enough to push CSM down the stairs. (Even though CSM was despicable, I still loved him and watching him die in that way just about made me cry) By the way, I'm so excited for the second X-Files movie!
Who else has really good tension? Well, Chuck and Sarah have potential. Chuck obviously likes her, she may like him but he's just a job to her. We got some foreshadowing when the duplicitous CIA agent (can't remember her name) told Chuck that Sarah liked him, but she probably didn't know it yet. And the end scene of the last episode, where Chuck pleads with her to tell him the truth about something, she reveals her middle name with some reluctance. The melancholy of that interaction was so palpable and again, my heart was just about broken. I can't wait for Chuck on Monday!
Veronica Mars and Logan, wow. That's a doozy. They hate each other, but they actually like each other. It must be exhausting for both of them.
I hate when people say that certain TV characters should get together and they make fan vids on youtube when they obviously weren't meant to be together. Case in point: Sam and O'Neill from SG-1. Everyone thinks they should be together, but they obviously should not. I mean, O'Neill admitted he liked her, very briefly, in the fourth season. But after that, nothing. Sam wanted him to be nothing more than a friend. Maybe he just buried his feelings because he knew it could never happen, but it wasn't meant to be. Now McKay and Sam, that's a completely different story. Mom has a whole bunch of love theories for Stargate Atlantis. Here's each of them and my take on them:
Sheppard and Teyla: He may like her, but she just wants to be friends with him. No sexual tension at all. It won't develop.
Sheppard and Weir: I think she likes him a little, but he doesn't have any discernible feelings for her beyond friendship. And she's a bitch, and she also gets downgraded to recurring in season 3. No development here.
Teyla and Ronon: Not sure, I think they have potential. Although again, Teyla seems to only want to be friends. She's a very ambiguous person. And he's way scary. I don't think he knows anything about women at all, what with being on the run from the Wraith for seven years. We shall see.
If anyone on Stargate Atlantis is going to get together, it's McKay and Zelenka. They have this weird and volatile chemistry. You keep expecting them to make out at any second. Which is weird, because they're two guys. I know of no two guys who have such good chemistry as these two.
I think the partners from Law and Order: Criminal Intent have pretty good chemistry as well. So do whatshisface and Olivia from SVU.
I completely forgot about Murphy and Dresden. They have way better chemistry in the books (ie: Murphy's his guardian angel?) and in the series their two kisses were kind of funny (Dresden was drugged in one, and in the other he was trying to get slapped. Long story) and you could tell it killed him to lie to her, but he did to protect her. Aww. And then in the last episode, which I somehow completely missed when I was watching it on TV but rediscovered while watching it on DVD, after the aforementioned kiss to get slapped, she said, "Sorry for slapping you. It won't happen again." ie: she won't slap him if he tries to kiss her again. You know what kills me? THAT'S THE LAST EPISODE OF THE SEASON, and it's not getting renewed. AND I've stopped reading the books since the last one was so sexualized and the next one takes place on the set of a porno, so I won't get to see how the book tension works out.
I can't believe I wrote so much about fake TV love. I need to get out more.
Ciao.
