Inspired by Azor's blog, I present: A Trip Through Robin's Bookshelf
Top Shelf: Here I have all my valid magazines: A year of Spin and a year of Rolling Stone.
First Shelf: This is my DVD shelf.
7 seasons of X-Files. Just in case there's someone out there thinking of buying them, the best seasons, in order from best to worst are: 6, 3, 1, 5, 7, 2, 4.
Two seasons of Stargate Sg-1
Three seasons of Stargate Atlantis. Mom is obsessed, which is good because she bought me season 3 yesterday! It's pretty amazing because it's really difficult to find Stargate Atlantis, but in a month I have found three.
Two seasons of Supernatural. Best show ever.
One season of the Dresden Files. This find was also a miracle, because it was so low budget and I don't think the ratings were very high, so I doubted they would release it on dvd. But I found
it at Wal-Mart.
Season 3 of Law and Order which I got for Christmas from Heidi. I believe she gave it to me a month early. Chris Noth is a surprisingly hot man.
All six Star Wars, five of which are on VHS. Considering the low quality of the three prequels, I loved Episode III.
The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Back to the Future trilogy. I love those movies.
Red Eye- a present from Amanda.
Chronicles of Narnia. The books were better.
War of the Worlds- love the book, love the movie. Modernizations as a rule don't work, but this one definitely does. Tom Cruise was awesome in one of his last movies before he went psycho.
Fiddler on the Roof- Best musical ever, and HILARIOUS. Lindsay and I both love this movie.
Batman Begins- one of the few good comic book adaptations, the only better one being Spiderman 2.
Casablanca- My favourite movie in the world.
The Maltese Falcon- I don't care what people think, Humphrey Bogart is one sexy man.
The Thin Man- hilarious.
Roman Holiday- Widely held to be the most enjoyable movie ever, but I didn't agree.
Casablanca was more enjoyable, but Gregory Peck was really good.
12 Angry Men- Why don't they have good dialogue based movies anymore? Henry Fonda was excellent in this one.
Breakfast at Tiffany's- The best kiss ever in the movies. Screw you, The Notebook.
Hendrix, Strange Brew, and Something Corporate: Live at Ventura Theatre- my music dvd's.
Second Shelf: These are my favourite books.
The Husband and The Good Guy- My two hardcover Dean Koontz books. The Husband was good, but The Good Guy, was subpar.
The Thin Man, the Maltese Falcon, and Red Harvest- Three books in one by Dashiell Hammet. The Thin Man was more subpar than I expected, The Maltese Falcon was excellent (I LOVE Effie) and I haven't read Red Harvest yet.
The Year of Secret Assignments- One of my favourite girly books.
A Great and Terrible Beauty and it's sequel, Rebel Angels- Excellent, excellent books. I can't say how much I love them.
The Last King of Scotland- My reward for my two days of hell at work. I haven't finished it yet.
My Dean Koontz books: One Door Away From Heaven, The Taking, Life Expectancy, Fear Nothing and it's sequel Seize the Night, Odd Thomas and it's sequel Forever Odd, Velocity, and Intensity. Life Expectancy is my favourite book of all time.
My five Dresden Files books: One, two, and four were excellent. Three and five were terrible. Jim Butcher's going the way of Laurell K. Hamilton, and I can't stop him. This saddens me.
The Zombie Survival Guide- Hilarious and educational.
My three Chuck Klosterman books: Fargo Rock City, Killing Yourself to Live, and Chuck Klosterman IV.
Third Shelf:
My three Spiggot's Quest books: They're kind of fantasy satire.
Rule of Four- A book both Mr. Halyk and I have read, and he never ceases to let me forget it. It's like Da Vinci Code lite.
My Michael Crichton books: Jurassic Park, The Lost World, Prey, Timeline, and State of Fear. Prey and State of Fear were the best.
My Dan Brown books: four of them. Angels and Demons is the best one.
Memoirs of a Geisha- I LOVE this book, but why couldn't she have loved Nobu instead of the Chairman? It's so saddening I get teary and I can't read the end. This actually happened. I was rereading it and it made me so deeply depressed I couldn't finish it.
Beauty Sleep- it's a take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, but way better and not as misogynistic.
Johnny Cash autobiography- one of the better autobiographies.
The Nanny Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada- really entertaining. The Devil Wears Prada is better.
The Art of War- Loved it. Surprisingly easy to get through.
Watership Down- My favourite, favourite children's book of all time.
Biography of Adolf Hitler- deeply, deeply disturbing.
The Manchurian Candidate- I accidentally stole this from the FLCS library. I took it out without signing it out and then forgot to take it back and then I though, "I'm going to a new school next year." It was my little revenge on Mrs. Pitre.
The Island of Dr. Moreau- I never finished this one. War of the Worlds was better.
The Lovely Bones- Never finished this either. I liked it, but it seemed to drag.
You're From Canada You Say?- a book of Canadianisms.
Bottom Shelf:
Two short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle (surprisingly good)
Pilates instruction book. It's overrated, but relaxing.
Bat Boy Lives- a compilation of Weekly World News articles. They're actually quite witty. However, I'm the only one who thinks they're funny.
Kurt Cobain journals: I accidentally stole this. They're really really weird. Kurt Cobain was a deeply fucked up person.
The Complete Beatles Chronicle: I also accidentally stole this.
Hard Day's Write- the story behind every Beatles song.
How to Play Like The Guitar Greats
The Hobbit
The Official Beatles Biography
I hope you enjoyed it, and thank you for joining me on this odyssey.
