Canoe Trip '06

Here is my canoe trip summary:
Thursday, June 15th: Got on the bus around quarter after seven. Heidi and I were in the passenger bus until PA and then we switched into the chaperone bus because Heidi got sick and I was with her for moral support. Um...I learned that Korby took a huge dump in PA. Yeah, too much information. We arrived in Misinipe I have no clue when but canoed 9 k to Paul Island. Bryce was singing 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall for awhile and got to 48 before he shut up. He sort of cheated as he went from 70 to 60, go figure.
I cooked steak and sidekicks on Paul Island. I hurt so much after the first canoeing stretch. We set up camp, I got a picture with Damien's inukshuk. Heidi was doing weird puppet shows for an hour while I was trying to sleep and more than one person told her to shut up.

Friday, June 16th: The next morning we packed up (its a miracle my shit got in my bag). We canoed 7 k to Reid Island. I didn't hurt as much which was good. We stayed in our tent pretty much all day. It rained a lot and Heidi and I wore our pimpin' rain gear for about ten minutes. Then we went back in our tent. Heidi got really hyper off Crystal Light. I can't really remember much. I made up a story about Bob the ax murderer who lives on Reid Island and kills grade 10 girls. Not Peter, Bob.

Saturday, June 17th: We actually ventured from our tent that day. Heidi and I went fishing with Zayne's dad Joe (she didn't fish, she just came) I caught two jack which I didn't keep and Joe caught two jack and a perch which got away. He started randomly complaining about criminal background checks and stuff, it was funny. He looks and sounds exactly like Zayne. We were chatting about Toronto. Then we came back and Kerri and I washed our hair. The lake is extremely cold. I kept sliding down the rocks so I pretty much didn't have a choice about whether to gradually get used to the water. What else happened...Amanda got stuck in the tent and Barry had to cut the flap that the zipper was stuck on. Then we all got stuck inside the tent and were contemplating whether to blow our whistles which wouldn't be embarrassing at all, but then I crawled out through a tiny whole and saved us. Yes thats me, always a hero. What else happened...um...some guys caught 18 walleye and we were forced to eat it all. I thought it was kind of stupid they kept them all. Amanda didn't wash her hair, brush her teeth, or change her clothes all four days. She looked like the crackwhore from hell.
Zayne and Ryan would burn witch's hair and then sniff it because apparently it cleared sinuses, but then they decided to smoke it which was amusing. I got some pictures of it. Heidi and I were talking in song lyrics to each other and Mr. Halyk was looking at us weird.

Sunday, June 18th: We packed up to canoe the 16 k back which I would not recommend. We were supposed to stop at Paul Island for lunch and I was so happy when we arrived because I hadn't eaten breakfast and I had just finished sharing a pop tart with Bryce when Matt was like "Paddle! Move!" and I was like "I haven't eaten yet!" I didn't even have a chance to put my food bag away. We were canoeing beside Tyson and Kyle for awhile and Matt and Tyson were singing Johnny Cash songs which was nice, but then Bryce and Matt started whistling some stupid annoying song. Matt also kept hitting his paddle on the water which was stupid, and then he lost his paddle which was also stupid. The last couple of kilmetres were absolute torture. I could see the last bend but it was so far away! It felt like we weren't moving at all and I was thinking of jumping into the water without my lifejacket, it was that tortuous. When we finally rounded the bend and saw the canoes on shore you cannot even imagine my relief and exhilaration. Then I had to go pee really badly and me and Tamara went to the bathrooms but this guy told us they were only for campers and the other one "was just down the road, not far". So Tamara and I went in search of it and we saw Zayne, Julianna, and someone else coming from the opposite direction so we asked them where it was, and they said they couldn't find it. So we were randomly walking around and we walked in a circle and some guy pointed us in the direction of the bathrooms and they were the camping ones, so we were like "screw it" and just went in them. The ride home felt like it was so long...in PA we went to a Chinese restaurant and were all dirty and smelly and it was funny. I hadn't brushed my hair that morning so I can't even imagine what it looked like. The bus seats were so uncomfortable. Heidi was sleeping weird. I was sleeping and leaning forward onto my bookbag which was on knees and Heidi's head kept hitting my shoulder. So I couldn't sleep, and instead contented myself with watching Heidi's head loll around like she had no neck muscles. Then in her sleep, whenever an earphone slipped out she would put it back in. But that's no the impressive part. The impressive part was when she took her mp3 player out of her pocket, looked at it with her eyes closed, and changed the song. We arrived in Foam Lake at 20 after and went home. As soon as I got home I ate chocolate, got a massage from my brother, and had a bath. It felt so good to be clean.

So that was my trip.
