The Big Seven: Secrets to Reading Thrillers

I just finished reading a thriller by Dean Koontz, and I am here to impart my secrets on figuring out whodunit.

1. The one they suspect first is never the killer. This is a cardinal rule in thrillers. Unless of course, its Dean Koontz, in which case he sometimes does that to throw you off.

2. Usually if the main character suspects a person, its not the killer.

3. If the person is glaringly obvious, its not it. It is ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS the person you don't suspect. Unless its Dean Koontz and he does that to throw you off.

4. It's usually not a woman.

5. If someone is solving a mystery alone and then takes someone into their confidence, that person is more often than not the killer.

6. It's never a stranger, its always someone the protagonist knows. This is always true. Always.

7. It is almost never the spouse of the protagonist.
